Simple Tips to Improve Your Office Environment

Workers spend a great deal of time in their workplace, depending on their job, and this is particularly true of office workers. While this trend has reversed somewhat due to Covid and the adoption of days working from home, businesses should still attempt to make their office environments as attractive as they can for their work force. A positive and productive work environment is good for your employee’s mental health and it will also maximize productivity which as every business owner knows is highly desirable.

Colour schemes can be very important. While it’s beyond the scope of this article to discuss specifics and people will have a huge range of opinions it’s certainly a point to consider when planning your workspace. You may have a company colour scheme around your branding or logo or you may want to go with a colour that suits your mission statement or ideology.

Natural light can be very important. This can be a big factor in Winter where people arrive to work and leave in the dark, therefore seeing very little natural light all day. If you can get large windows or skylights that let natural light fall on your workspace this can be very appealing to your staff members. Views can also be very appealing, although there’s little you can do if you’re situated in the middle of an industrial estate. However, having a great view, coupled with natural lighting can be a huge positive.

Plants are another great addition to the office and several studies have shown that greenery can really contribute to the mental wellbeing of your team. We have looked in detail at the best office pants in a previous blog post but a selection of green plants can greatly improve the office environment. Lots of businesses also have a fresh bunch of flowers on reception each week which is a nice touch.

Music. This can be a contentious issue as some people work better in silence while others like some ambient noise. But it you do make it company policy to have background music then a good sound system is a sensible investment. Many people prefer to play their own choice of music through headphones and if people have to do Zoom calls at their desk the choice of background music will need to be subtle and not overly loud.

Top quality food and drink. Whether it is simply a coffee bar serving aromatic blends of coffee or an organic café serving delicious foods, these both lend themselves to an improved employee experience. You could organize this yourself or outsource it to a company who specializes in this type of catering. Having an attractive eatery onsite can massively improve the environment at your workplace and your staff will appreciate it.

If you implement some or all of these suggestions in your business then your business environment will no doubt improve greatly and your team members will really feel the benefits.
