Tips on Making a Good Sales Presentation

As a small business owner or entrepreneur you will, at some stage, need to make a sales presentation. This could be to a prospective client or it could be to a group of investors and your chance of landing the contract or the funding will depend on the success of your presentation. We’re going to describe a 6 step process that can form the framework of each presentation that should give you the best chance of getting a favourable result every time.

While this can be adapted to be done verbally we’ll assume you’re making some sort of Powerpoint presentation to your audience.

Let’s get started with the first slide:

Introduce Yourself. It’s important here to keep it simple and straight forward. There is no need for your whole life biography. This is a good chance for branding so use your logo and business name on the slide and list a few key points only.

Next, Present the Problem. Here is where you want to agitate the pain points that your prospective customer is feeling. Use images on your slides that show them that you understand their problems.

Thirdly, Present the Solution. Show how your product or service can solve one or more of their problems. Show pictures of your product in action so they can imagine their problems being solved. Don’t focus on features so much here but double down on the benefits they will receive when they use your product or service.

At this point you need to Provide Data. Here it is a good idea to use Case Studies. Show images of people or companies like them using your product and getting the desired results from it. This shows very strong social proof and will make you much more believable. Present visual data to support your earlier claims.

Now you can Drive Home Your Pitch. Have a strong call to action and re-iterate your main benefits. But be concise here as sales pitches can get boring and dry very quickly.

Finally, you need to Answer Any Questions. Now is the time to get any concerns addressed and taken care of. Always talk in terms of benefits, not features and always be honest about what you’re promoting. Remember to always under promise and over deliver. It also helps to really get your prospects engaged in the process. Get them to visualise themselves using and benefitting from your product or service.

This 6 step process whether presented verbally or in slide form will give you the best chance of your sales pitch getting the best response. Next time you need to put together a sales presentation use the tips in this article to make it go as smoothly as possible.
